Hatchling, Baby and Business. These are 3 different shared hosting plans in Hostgator. Their aim is to serve different needs at different cost.
But you know what, Hatchling and Business are kind of nonsense to me!
3 of the plans are literally the same. They are all Linux based, with unlimited features and perhaps sharing the same physical server. What make them different are only 7 out of a few hundred items excluding the price.
Let’s check out the differences below.
The biggest difference between Hatchling and Baby is the number of domains allowed. And the biggest difference between Baby and Business is the Free Toll-Free Number and dedicated IP. Perhaps what differs them the most is the pricing! From the table we can see to upgrade from Hatchling to Baby cost $3 extra per month and to upgrade from Baby to Business, it cost $5 extra per month. Do bear in mind that besides these 7 items, all other features are the same among the 3 plans.
I believe the initial purpose of Hostgator offering Hatchling is to cater for users who run only one websites, for example blogger. However, if I were a blogger I would rather go for Baby for the flexibility of domain hosted. I could also set up blogs for my dad and my mom and my kids with the extra domain slots. After all it cost only $3 more.
While Business plan is kind of overrated because I do not see there is a big difference between Baby and Business Plan. Perhaps what I see as the biggest difference is the extra 62% in price. However, the Free Toll-Free Number feature in Business plan is definitely a plus point for those who need them. Bear in mind that the service is only available for phone number located in US and Canada, so people who are outside of US and Canada like me have no luck in using the service.
Honestly out of these 3 plans, Baby is the one 90% of the people who need it. With unlimited storage and unlimited add on domains, user can literally host any websites online. If you need a dedicated IP like what Business Plan offers, you can always pay $2 extra to get it. Rather than $5 extra, you save $3.
And because of that, Baby is highly recommended regardless of your needs!
